I was in the shop the other day checkin out some fish, (afterwork, was bored), checking out one tank, I noticed there was a Puffer in the tank, thinking that puffers were only salt or brackish when they were big I asked the guy and he said, no its a freshwater puffer, it would probably be 16-18cm i reckon, just from looking, didnt measure but i took some photos....

heres a couple of the puffer, also got soem photos of another fish i took a pic of... he looked pretty cool and just wanted to know what he was too...

Sorry bout the terrible quality pics, took them with the iphone and they move to quick... see the big plecs in the background?

and the other one:

please be easy on me, im new to all this, lol (if they are obvious)

edit - notice how the puffer smiles? i always find that funny, always

The second fish looks like a synsphilum to me. The pic in my sig one but it is taken under a blue light so it makes mine look bluer (in normal light mine looks like the pic). Syns are very agressive- mine keeps my jag in check. It also hates oscars, i have had to move 2 out of the tank that were in with it!!!! They get to about a foot long

Check this youtube vid

I can't get no sleep

aggreed with delboy on the synspillum.
The puffer is a Carinotetraodon borneensis or Bornean red eye puffer and is indded a freshwater puffer.
BUT< this one looks bad and is very malnourished imo.
i personaly would not buy the fish for it looks bad.
And if you were planning to put the puffer in with the Oscars, you will have one dead puffer and a dead oscar, if the O decides to eat the puffer.
Puffer are very toxic when eaten, and they deserve a single species tank.

Oh and Vieja synspillum can be very aggressive.
Mine got rehomed after beating the crap out of my Oscar, and even knocked him out on one occassion...
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

thanks guys, nah, id love to have a puffer but it would be a single fish tank, i just saw him there and i thought he looked a bit skinny as well noddy, the fish shop got given him by someone, obviously unawares of how to look after him.

Thanks for the info guys, did ya notice the tails of the big plecs in the background noddy?
