my tank is to wide, and awarkward to get to the back wall, alot of algea has formed on it and my catfish doesnt seem to move any lol, any tips on removing it, im thinking of getting a plec but i need one at least 5inch and im having problems geting one that size i dont want it bigger because i like to see them grow, so tips pls peeps xxx

There are several causes of algae, What color is it? That will help us tell you how to avoid it all together!

It sounds like normal algae that you often find in aquariums. Algae won't cause any problems unless you have lots of it, then it may cause oxygen depletion.

You can help reduce algae by not leaving your lights on for so long, not positioning your tank by a window, & not overfeeding, and obviously carrying out regular water changes to keep the nitrate levels down, algae thrives on nitrate. In most cases you're always going to have to use a little bit of manual labor to remove algae off the glass, if you want to remove it off the rocks that you have to take them out and clean them.

In your case, I would just turn the lights on for a couple of hours in the evening and try this for a while and see if the algea stuff diminishing. I wouldn't however rely on fish to remove algae, they will only add to your bio load which in turn will create more work for you.

i think i do have my lights on to long, so i will cut it down, my light are actualy on from 6 in the morn to 8 in the evening, i have three long tubes in my hood, but only use two during the day, and then one early evening until 8, then that goes off and my blue night light is on,about the window one side is by the window, but i close the blinds when the sun comes threw, xxx

hi i have 3 g13 t8 tubes in my hood, i only use one was thinking of getting a blue one will that help
