has anyone on this website ever built there own fishtank, because next year in metal work im bulding a 6 foot cabinet which will save me yonks and i was wondering if anyone new about the glass side of things, because id like to save an extra 100 bucks by building my own.
ive heard that you need special glass, and also how thick would the glass need to be.

if you are into metal fabrication, you can built an stand with cabinet
a 6 footer tank requires a glass panel not lower than 1/2 inch thick and
must have proper support.

in one of my project before, i had built an 8 footer tank using stainless
steel sheet in all sides and bottom except the view glass (front side). it
turn out to be cheaper, lighter, and easier to maintain. but there is a tricks
with the metal sheet to avoid warping; it requires press punch to stiffen with
back support bar or rod.

i think it will be easier to order in a tank and just build the stand.
the glass section sounds complicated, and i dont want to screw up and have glass smashed with a small flood through our house.

I too have built my own tank, and I will tell you it is nothing but a test in patience!

I love the tank, but with all the leaks it had while water testing, I will never fully trust it! If you want detailed instructions and pics let me know!

i have discovered the difficult in building a large glass tank, firstly the thick glass 10mm thick is so damn heavy it would be a pain to work with, a 6ft sheet of glassweighing about 80 kg. also the price and time i cant see why i should build myself.

ill just keep myslef busy with the easy cabinet

with my 6ft x 30"W x 24"H tank, i made it a point they assemble it
on site, otherwise, it will be difficult to move around when set up
