Do you think it would be possible for a person to get a parasite from tank water?

I worry about my kid, as I have had two O's go to what seemed to be parasites.

also do you think its possible for my tank to be infested with parasites waiting
for a new host. 2 O's just seems strange to me. could they get them from food
I only fed the 2 that died Hikari gold.

Depends what sort of parasite you are talking about. But to answer your question, yes, you can catch parasites from water. But I don't think you have anything to worry about in your home aquarium. Obviously if anyone had an open wound they may be advised to be a little careful just in case you pick up an infection. But truthfully, I've never heard of anyone contracting any kind of illness from the aquarium. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me

The likelihood of your or your children developing parasites from a home aquarium is extremely slim. Unless of course you're going to eat the fish, and they were infected and the fish wasn't cooked properly. Then you might develop tapeworms. But honestly - (other than Paul's nephews ) who eats their aquarium fish?

as the others have said you would be extremely unlucky to catch parasites from your fish. most fish are well quarantined before sale. but it is possible. I have been keeping fish for many, many yrs now and have on many occasions drank dirty water while trying to syphon it out from tanks and ponds. its not something i recommend anyone to do, but cross infection is so little I don't feel I need to take extra care. I myself have a 2yr old baby girl that feeds and sometime puts her hands in the tank.(I do wash her hand after). I would say its more likely for you or the kids to infect the fish with something rather than the fish infect you. as ofl said i am open to be corrected. most kids have more chance of parasite infection from school. lastly your fish have NO chance of infection from dried pellets.

It may be possible but unlikely. Given that fish keeping is quite a common hobby if there was fair chance of catching something it would have been common knowledge by now. That said it dont do any harm to tank precations like washing hands and keeping cut or sore hands out of the tank
