so yesterday my sister calls me up to make a run to the petstore to get her some pond pellets for her koi tank, and i needed some frozen rodents for my kingsnake, so i go to petco to pick this up for her, and while im there i go looking thru their fish tanks. after a few minutes i get to the saltwater section and they have a fresh arrival they didnt have a few days before when i was hunting for black convicts, a volitan lion fish that was maybe 4.5" long. beautiful. meanwhile im waiting on some service to get some pink mice for my snake, and i see this fish and pull out my cellphone to take a pic of it because it was quite stunning in its beauty. you would think i shot kenedy. i had THREE employees jump me and escort me out of the store for taking a PICTURE. i will NEVER go back to a petco again. when provoked i asked if it was posted anywhere, and they could not provide evidence of that. ive spent $1000's there over the years. lucky for me they just opened a petsmart down the road.

people can be so unnessiarily rude. all they had to do was ask and it wouldnt have been an issue. the way they acted it was as if i was stealing from them.

I know that flashes can sometimes upset fish, although I have never experienced that with mine. However I think that was rather over the top to kick you out just for taking a photo. Was that the only reason they did it, for taking the photograph? If that happened to me, I'm afraid I'm not the sort of person that would just let that go, I would definitely put in a complaint to the management and see what they say.

wow thats crazy! I was just there last week and took a pic of one of the oscars to show my wife. they didnt say or do anything. lol i would go back just to sneak a pic. am i wrong?

i didnt even get to take the pic, they saw me focusing on it and stopped me before i got to click the button. and i had the flash turned off so there would be no reflections off the glass. but i have to agree, im not one to let that go. so here i am, loading up my real camera, and im walking in with video recording... and they can get mad if they like. it will look funny on youtube.

Oh, man, what a story.
There wouldt have been a Nice discussion whenever my LFS would pull a stunt like that.
Because I go around photograghing any tank or fish I like.
And I like ém very quickly.
I can understand they wouldn't want you to use a flash.
But this is nuts!!!:angry:

petco sucks, or atleast the one here does. every time i go in to the fish section there is nobody there to help me, i have to drag someone over if i have a question.
i asked one guy a water quality question, and he responded "i don't really know, i'm the snake guy"
almost all the freshwater tanks are overgrown with algae.
there are always dead fish in the tanks, and almost always an ich infection in one of the tanks. might as well be wal-mart.
the only real reason i continue to visit the College Station PetCo is because if i buy 10 bags of dog food, i get one free (i have 3 dogs, so it helps some)

The College Station PetSmart on the other hand is awesome. I buy all of my aquaria-related items from this store. The tanks are extremely clean with a great selection of fish. They have at least one person dedicated to the fish section at all times and they are VERY knowlegible.

I guess you could look at it this way, if i actually had my questions answered at petco, i might have never found this site.

Sorry if this falls into the category of hijacking a thread, but i really am apalled by the service and care of fish stock of our local Petco store.
