I have got various fake plants in my 300 gallon tank and the Oscars don't bother with them at all. I think it's a case of trying plants and see what happens, the Oscars will either destroy them, or not bother with them. Mind you, Oscars are not the only fish to have a go plants, if you've got silver dollars, be careful, they eat live plants. Other cichlids such as Severums also take a dislike to plant for some reason.

You are lucky your oscar leaves the plants alone. Most oscars love pulling plants up, but all fish are different and you have an oscar that leaves plants alone

Having said that you and OFL both have large tanks so maybe they only attack plants in small tanks (for oscars). Whats the experience of others with large tanks? (say 200g or bigger)

well i dont quite fit into the bigger than 200 gal catagory but i have noticed that since i moved the boys to a bigger tank that they no longer destroy the plants i have in there. now its only bee a couple of weeks but so far so good
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

guys, you're lucky! i can't keep a single leaf in my tank! Tiger will dig it up and attack the plants fiercely! it doesn't matter whether they r plastic or real! he is aggressive:angry: ; often bashes the filter and the heater, he is unpredictable, sometimes attacks the pleco but most of the time they r buddies!
100 US Gallon Tank - 1 Tiger Oscar (Tiger);
1 Common Pleco

30 Gallon Tank - 4 Angels (1 Veil Tail, 1 Albino, 2 Marble)
