Have you introduced any bogwood lately, this can often stain and leave a taint in the water. Decaying plant matter may also be responsible. As long as your water checks out okay, I don't think it's going to cause much of a problem. Carry out frequent water changes and you should be able to keep it under control. You could try activated carbon for a short period of time, this can also clear the water, but don't leave it in there permanently.

x2 to what penn said.

Also you may have some kind of Algae bloom. It wouldn't hurt to have some more filtration on the tank along more frequent water changes.

in addition to what had been said, foods sometime excrete color to the water too
especially if there are plenty of left over....

how long has the tank been set up for, and can you test the water for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate

Did you leave the old filter running all the time or has it been turned off

Remove any dead growth from plants!!
