jnet created the topic: bamboo

going on the debate of nitrates and DIY plant filters could I use my garden bamboo take cuttings and place in filter to start. AND then would they be suited for going in the tank? I know you can get aquarium bamboo is it the same or will my cutting just die?

I am not going to try it if there is any risk to my fish. If anyone knows advice would be nice, thanks :) Jnet

I have found out that the fittonia's you buy in garden centres are the same you buy at petshops.

I'm living my life, but not necessarily in the right order :)

The bamboo sold for aquatic use is not aquatic and is not bamboo - it's a Dracaeana, sometimes called lucky bamboo. It's not at all related to true bamboos, which are giant grasses. None are suited to your aquarium - guaranteed to die.
