Hey guys, I was at walmart the other day and saw those Hybrid Aponogeton Bulbs hanging in the aquatic center. I decided to give them a shot just for the hell of it since they where so cheap. I did some research on them and they seem like very nice plants that grow no matter what the conditions are. I know how Oscars are with plants but I figured I would give it a shot and if it didn't work out I would move them to my other Tank.

Has anyone here tried these plants?
Did they grow as promised on the box?
If you did have or do have them do you like them?

I found this on fishlore:
Basically, all plants need to grow is light, CO2 and fertilizers. The light will come from your hood. The CO2 will come from your fish breathing. The fertilizers will come from your fishes's poop and decaying food matter. Just make sure to keep the dead stuff trimmed of the plant so it can concentrate on supporting what is still living. Tada, healthy live plants!
and on the planted tank opinions differ a lot, but this seems positive:

Only a few of them will sprout, they will sprout leaves first, about 3-4 leaves, and then shoot out roots, I recommend you just let them be once they root, so place them where you want them to grow.

The bulbs that grow white deposits on them are no good, chunk them as soon as you see them.

It takes about a week to see sprouting, after that depending on your lighting and everything else, they take off

sounds like an easy plant, if it roots..
Still couldn't tell you if the oscar will like them or like them too much!;)

Thanks Noddy, I'm surprised no one else has responded yet I guess they haven't seen the post yet.

I saw pictures of them and they look really nice and grow fairly big.

The ones with the white stuff, what is it? will it harm my fish?

No, it won't hurt your fish, but those plants will be lesser species, and are best removed.
Well, that's what i read.;)

They might not be over seas... I found them at Wal-Mart, I hope they grow as promised because they would look great in the tank.
