i have bamboo in my goldfish tanks, one of the tall stalked with spiral on the top roots in the gravel and then a small one the cats thought was a chew toy its in one of the filters, they have been thriving and growing very well so i assume theyre taking something out. i dont do a whole lot with the goldfish tank i raise them in a kind of tough it out scenario to prep them for pond life.

For the past 2 months I have had a hard time keeping my Nitrates under 30-40 ppm after a week of not changing the water. (I always test my water right before doing a water change) A week later after putting the Lucky Bamboo in and doing a 20 gallon water change on that same day, I tested my water earlier and I had barely 5ppm!!!!!!!!! I was sure it would help with Nitrates and all, but not to this extent :woohoo: Lucky Bamboo could really be an effective Toxin Remover / Nitrate Filter :cheer:

Yeah, small fry, I do believe they can be trained like Bonsai plants. You can get them to grow around round objects by wiring them where you want them to go. I have one about 4 foot now that is following the sun. Think I'm going to wire them to where they grow straight up. It was a 4" little thing I got for $3.99 american. I still have a 5" in with my Betta now. He likes it and I agree they look neat.

Hi,

Just wanted to say thanks to this thread I can keep oscars in a healthy enviroment. I have 40ppm nitrates coming out of my tap, due the a high local farming community and it will always be that. The aqaurium shop down the road gets the same; so regular water changes wont really work.

Im going to go buy all the lucky bamboo plants available in my local tescos! Then on with the cycling of the tank!

thanks alot guys love this site!
