I have four oscars in a 180 gallon, and have had no problems with plants. Anubias Nana seem to do the best. I also have micro sword and amazon sword along with some java fern. The inherent dirtiness of our beloved oscar makes for easy fertilization. Two of mine actually sleep underneath my largest anubia. I believe that the social stimulation from being in a group keeps their mind off of destroying my plants. They are doing quite well with them, I was extremely skeptical at first, everyone told me not to waste my time, but I wanted plants too keep my water parameters in check.

I think there's a general consensus that plants and Oscars don't mix. However I have had some artificial plants in my big 300 gallon tank and I've never noticed the Oscars going after them like they used to in my 125 gallon tank. So I would probably say to anybody who really wants plants, give it a go, you've got nothing to lose.

i also had tried those things. but when my oscars become
matured and started to spawn, nothing inside the tank
stays in place for one day. everything had been move.
live plants were smashed and up-rooted. i was forced to
find alternative way, thus i introduce aquaponics on top
of my tank.
