TOPIC: my planted lil off topic of oscars

my planted lil off topic of oscars 3 years, 1 month ago #27863

ok its a lil dark but the tank light is way better than what the pic shows. My plants in that tank I honestly cant tell you the names since they are never simple but its been running about a month now. I added the fish a week ago which are simple but fun. I have 4 black angel fish 5 rummy nose and 6 green tetras and 5 male guppies, Im kicking around an idea when the tank is set and over flowing with plants to add females once it gets more grown so they have hiding areas. I am actually running a undergravel with power heads and a hang in the back filter. I am hoping to have the grass get growing fast to cover more of my tank but its still new.
I have lost my mind be back when I find it, maybe.

i also have been prunning off the anacharis or what ever its called to help fill in the gaps so yes they are not tall but that is why

ok here is all i have of them and one thing i can suggest to anyone who is planning on getting gravel like mine is there is no such thing as rinsed enough. I have had to rinse off my filters like once a week for a month and you are looking at week 2 of clear water and omg i was ready to flip out so best suggestion i have is buy a screen and take hand fulls and just rinse and repeat over and over again or you will end up like me changing out filters and water daily until you give up and just keep up with the filter rinses. But any big cleaning expect to be cleaning off filter pads to keep water clear.

the tank looks great:)
in the center pic it looks like a spattiphyllum. i used to have a whole bunch of those but had a hard time keeping them alive. do you use some kind of fertilizer?

It is well lit trust me its a full length twin bulb grow light i had to cover the flash on my camra to get the pics to show so it came out darker than it really is my gf complains about the light since i have a dark room and only have the light on at night so i can enjoy them when im home. The fertalizer is just an iron maganese liquid i add in twice a week. I have plans on removing the power heads out once all my plants are taller since they cause too much high levls movement and just put a old school style of airstone and up tube. To cut down on water movement a bit and then just let it run.

ok well a update on what is going on so far after a month of running in my planted tank. I removed my power heads since my large plant was getting up rooted so lesson learned big leafed plants and high moving water not good idea lol. then i had a fish die off i lost 3 male guppies and all but two of my neons i added two weeks ago. so i got replacement fish 6 serpa tetras and will be adding next week two angle rams just for some variation in color and man my tank is looking great other than the fish loss one thing i did was get liquid fertalizer called plant flurish and my plants are growing fast now most plants are now to about the hight of half my tank but my grass is so growing so so slow i added more to help it out a bit.

ohh forgot to tell you i have a power compact light in the tank since the start with just plain white blubs since i keep forgetting to answer what lighting i use and its running for like 10 to 11 hours a day depending on when i get home.

You have a great tank, I may copy you in my tetra tank, all the others would destroy live plants but I love how they look. More pics when you can please

thank you i do enjoy working on it but one thing is im learning a lot on my own but mainly the hard way lol but im going to be adding to my tank java moss to one side which will as i know add my work level to the max but i just need a good breeding ground and with one of my drift woods being the perfect spot with it being full of openings and what not for the moss to fill it in. but ya have at it i would love to see people do tanks this way and see how they all come out

Ok well lets see what has happend in my planted tank so far..... well it seems to be the week if it can go wrong it will lol. I started the week off with my endochandris my main center plant dying or succuming to its owners own stupididy. Fyi and note for myself buy smaller powerheads on next tank if i go planted since it killed my plant by the continual back and forth movement and me having to replanting it weekly since it would get uprooted ugh but i kinda like not having it now since it gives me more light room and planing room to fill in with. Then one of my light bulb blue and then my air pump went out yesterday due to who knows but agervating that i cant replace it right away but since its planted and i do have one side of the pump working im not worried since its not my oscar tank thank god for little maricales. and then the capper for the week. all but one male and 3 female guppies died (what a lucky guy lol) So i spent the better part of saturday cleaning and then replanting my plants areound to help fill in the gap made by the loss of my large plant.

and here is my wish list of plants that i want to get to fill in my tank more.
dwarf hairgrass
4 more onion bulbs
jungle val
