So I currently have amazon swords and another type of plant in my aquarium. I'm curious to know if I can run my UV filter with plants. Will it take out the fertilizers in the tank so that my plants will grow?

It may break down some organic compounds, but your plants will be just fine.

Here's a pretty comprehensive guide to all you ever wanted to know (and more) about your UV filter.
