Great looking setup bud. I'm doing a 125 planted for my Rhoms, lighting definitely seems to be the biggest deciding factor on how successful your tank can potentially be.

I'll have to get some snaps up when my new lights get here this weekend.

I do love the natural look of the planted tanks, and I think the fishes find them more appealing too.

Thanks for the comments guys and gal.

I got the fish all at petsmart, along with a fresh batch of ich! :woohoo:
I got the roseline sharks from a LFS about an hour away.

So the only survivors from the original planting were the swords- one of which appears to be a parent plant. It has a long stalk with mini swords forming on it.
I attribute a majority of my problems to:
-an ich outbreak which was treated with 2 weeks of 87*f + temperatre
- two powder blue gourami that ate 4 plants entirely,
-and of course my complete lack of experience with planted tanks.
As of now, plant stock includes:
4 amazon swords
2 anubias azfelli
Multiple hygrophila corymbosa stricta
One madagascar lace (that is doing better with the lower temp and move to the shade)
Mondo grass (which I just recently read may not live long submerged)
Java fern

Also have bulbs planted for:
Crinum thaianum (sprouting)
Aponogeton ulvaceus (not sprouting)
Nymphaea lotus green (not sprouting)

I really want to get the hang of this, but so far my thumb is anything but green.
Any input or advice is welcomed.

Don't get discouraged happens to us all, one corner of my tank keeps dying off for no reason it's starting to really burn my ass I've lost 3 species of plants to that corner now :pinch:

I can't really think of anything to suggest you do besides maybe start dosing seachem excel every other day other than that just be patient it can take plants a couple weeks to bounce back from major changes in the tank

What an amazing set up. It looks fantastic. Keep up the good work! It will be rewarding in the end once you figure out the issue!

I can grow barely grow hygrophillia difformis in my little planted tank - it's gangly and, despite putting out lots of roots, doesn't make lots of leaves. Cuttings from this plant seems able to grow nearly anywhere, though - taken over my mom-in-law's guppy tank (soon to be mixed tropical tank! Hooray!) and is even growing in Wicket's tank (which is about as far as a good habitat for plants as you can get).

I think sometimes plants are weird for no reason. Like Ken's corner of planty doom.

I hope this round goes better for you.
Stupid pet shop selling mondo grass as an aquatic plant. Same with moneywort! It actually does best half in half out, completely submerged it dies after a time.

So I bought some more bulbs. Seems water onions are the easiest thing in the world to grow. I also have one water lily that just sprouted.

Water onions. Kinda dull.

Water lily! B)
