Just wondered if anyone had any luck growing plants?
i have a approx' 50 gallon cube tank that i use for water changes,
i have a cheap internal filter, heater, airstone and gravel,
so when i do water changes i take it from here rather than the tap,
would i need to feed or add anything for the plants?(see photos)
also i leave the lights on this tank 24/7 yes or no?
As i imagine like most have found plants to be destroyed withing a short time,
but if i could grow my own wouldnt seem so bad, but am i wasting my time?
my idea was when they started to root i would split them and pop them back in the gravel, again am i wasting my time?
I dont want to add any kind of chemicals/fertilizer because as i say, i use
this tank for water changes,
THANKS

i have had a great experience growing plants so wen u have questions just ask,
all you need is the right kind of gravel, strong lights, and depending on your plants a co2 system wich you can make yourself in about 20 minutes.
leave the lights on for no more than 12 hours.

although i would hate to see fish fight, my oscar would kick your oscars ass!

Thanks for that
lol just switched the lights off,
when you say co2 system i assume you mean for oxygen?
so with the set up i have am i wasting my time?
as i mentioned i don't want to alter this tank to much as it's for water changes
so about once a week i take out about 3/4 of the water and then top it back up with treated tap water
thanks again

Thanks for that
when you say co2 is that for oxygen?

how big and how old is/are your oscar/s?
i have plants for almost a year...yeah..and they grew up very healthy...
but when my pair started to re-decorate the tank...and spawned, no plants
would stay in one place over night....so i gave up...and use aquaponics
principle instead.

lucky you if they did not bother to change your tank arrangement....
to be honest...i have some question about them....because i have 3
x 9 inches oscars right now... and they are just 9 months old...
i am wondering why your oscars are 10"inches only at 5 years old??
i few months back, my two years old oscars reached 14" marked but
unfortunately, i lost them both, 1 for constipation, the other by
jumping off the tank.

will try and measure them a bit more accurately tomorrow,
as i mentioned have had them 6 months, so hard to know
what set up/tanks they were in before,
will have to get them to stay still against the glass lol

when they lay their eggs, didn't they move substrate?
spawning oscar usually does that. and that is where ripping off
the plants happen
as to measuring, laid a tape measure in the glass, once they
swim near the glass, you can get a glimpse of their actual size
thru that measuring tape.

did a rough measure and i would day 10-11"
Re them laying eggs, they didnt do a lot of shifting stuff,
apert from some gravel next to the slate, they certainly rubbed the slate a lot,
put a few hardy plants in today so shall see what they get up to
