Now I know that algae is beneficial for an aquarium but i was wondering if different types of algae are better. In my aquarium the algae that persist is more of a brownish color and i don't know if this is a common algae in an aquarium or if its something else. If it is a brown algae, is it still good for my aquarium?

Brown Algae is caused by too low of light.. Leave your light on a few more hours a day, or give it a bit of direct sunlight.

man, I love this site - I seriously learn something new everyday

Brown algae is the only thing I get in my tank - just a bit on my decor. Wonder if it's because I run LED lights..... hmmmm......

Algae are the most persistent enemies and they are found in a wide range like Blue-green algae which has a slimy coating. Brown algae is usually found clinging onto the plants. Green spot algae takes forms in plants and other affected areas as a little green dots and spots.
