I was just reminded of this years fishingseason and was wondering Who catches What and Where this year?
I know a lot of members go out to catch fish , be it to eat them or just catch and release, all stories will be welcome.
And of course this thread will be worthless without pics.
I'll start off.
This is what I'll be catching as main fish this year: carp.

We got loads of nice places to catch them, and carp are loved by many.
My favourite spot is called Zeumeren and it's a summertime beach resort, where 10s of thousands of people go to swim when it's hot.
But the rest of the year there's only some fishermen...
The contrast is incredible and i spend some very quiet nights there to be overrun by people in the morning.

I only go carp fishing if i got my mate with me, for it's too much trouble to do on your own, imo.
We do use my canoe to make a huge feedingsspot and to drop the bait exactly on top of the food.
We use several kilos of cooked corn, pigeonfood and Hempseeds per rod.
I only use one dipped boilie as bait, and they allways seem to find that!

And here's my fishing partner in crime, watching the water.

When we catch a carp we film it, take pictures, we weigh it, measure it, drool over the carp a little and then quickly return it into the water.

I plan to go starting this end of april, for the carp will be VERY hungry after the winter and before spawning and will be easy to catch!
What do you plan to catch this year????

Noddy - what beautiful scenery!

Here is the very first fish I have ever caught - a Marlin off the coast of Cabo San Lucas. Maybe it was beginner's luck:) I hope to go back this year and catch another one. They are truly magnificent creatures.

I carefully released her and watched her swim away....

Columbia River White Sturgeon

Mmmmm..... Meghan and James should know what I'm talking about.

I'm drooling already. Haven't picked up the ODFW regulation booklet yet so I'm not sure if we can even keep em yet. It'll probably be just catch and release again this year, but that's fine. If you can get a 6-7ft fish or bigger on the line - you're in for one HELL of a good fight.

Once upon a time you used to be able to keep whatever you caught. We've got photos of my Grandfather reeling in 10+ft sturgeon off the bank of the Columbia here in town and on the banks of the Snake River in Idaho. I should borrow them and scan them....

man, that fish is huge.
i can only imagine what the fight must feel like when cathing a fish like that.
Marlin are the fastest fish in the world, if i'm correct.

@Jenni: YES, get those pics and scan them!
We need to see those.
@Paul; That would be funny to try, but i'm sure i'll be tangled up in the net in no time!

yeah, that's right!
I won't be going until the weather gets better.
If the weather is like this, it's hell out there if your canoeing to feed at night.
I remember one time a big carp got stuck after we caught it.
So i jumped in my canoe to loosen the fish .
That didn't work so i got my rod while in the canoe. When i was 20 feet out of the shore, my mate asked; "Don't you need your paddle?"
I thought i could manage without it, but the fr#@kin' fish pulled me al the way across the lake for a long time.
Bad idea, but funny nevertheless.

@ askhammatt: you caused this thread to happen!
Any grayling pics???
Lovely fish that is, and i can imagine the fight they put up if i look at their backfin.

Yep, carp fishermen as well here, as soon as that warm weather comes along I hope to be out there. Mind you Noddy, I'm not really one for sitting behind buzzers for hours on end waiting for a bite. I much prefer my 13 foot waggler rod with 5 pound line, a single trout pellet band mounted on a size 10 hook. I don't normally catch anything bigger than 10 pounds but boy do they get it on light tackle.
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss
