Hello Folks
I'm new here.
I don't have any Oscars yet, but maybe soon.
I'm doing research first.
My 175 gl sprung a leak so I had to pull it down.
Lost over half of my fish due to my own stupidity, too many fish in one of the rubbermaid bins for the oxygen available.

Anyhow, when I get it all back together I'm thinking of getting a couple of these little trouble makers.

Does anyone in Canada breed them?

Thanks
Ruadh

as long as you live by a pet shop that sells fish 9 times out of 10 they got oscars now most places only sell the red oscar and tiger oscaar

Thankx guys
There's only one store here that sells oscars and I'm not all that happy withy that place.
I'd kinda like to get lemon oscars if I could, but maybe I'll have to swallow my pride and go to the LFS.

I live in ottawa and I have got my oscars at petsmart. The one thing about petsmart is they overstock there tanks so take a close look at the fish you want for about 15-20 min and make sure they don't have ICK. Also look at the tank that they are in. Petsmart puts dividers in there tanks so there could be one section where all the fish have ICK but the other side does not. They are however sharing the same water source so stay away.

I have bought 3 oscars from them. 2 are still alive. The one that died on me I bought from them was treated for ICK and never seemed as healthy as the others and died on me 3 months later (water heater died and it was winter time, the weaker oscar got sick never recovered after that).

Another store I can recomend if you live in or near a big city in southern/eastern ontario is Big Al's. There fish are more expensive in general but are usualy better quality. Again look at them for 15-20 min and make sure they are healthy.

To be honest I think it would be much easier to tell that they were truly 'Canadian' Oscars if they were bred to have Maple Leaf shaped pigmentation on their caudal peduncle.

Hi folks
Sorry I haven't been around in a while.

I've now got two nice Tiger Oscars, just young, maybe 2 inches long.
I did get them at Big Als, even though I don't really like the place.
It's the only place here in Edmonton that sells them.
Well as we say, onward and upward.
