Hi Guys, just something interesting that happened here in the last few days. I have two female O's and a male. As I told you in another post, he get's jiggy with both ladies..which is kinda kinky for O's as far as I know. My smaller female is the mother of my current batch of fry. I have hatched the larger female's eggs too, but there was so much fungus they all died.
Anyway on Friday the larger female laid eggs. There was more aggression in the tank that I have ever seen - they all had scraped lips from biting each other's mouth. She would not let him over her eggs so I didn't take them away because they would not have been fertilised. Some time in the night however the balance of power shifted because the eggs were tan the next morning and mum and dad were exhaused sitting on the bottom of the tank...and guess who was fanning the eggs and keeping them away...the other female! So I got excited thinking that the eggs would not be eaten because everyone had a stake in this batch...I left the lights off and kept the kids away from the tank...but last night the eggs got eaten.
But it is pretty wild that the females are willing to claim each other's eggs!
Had no luck with the last lot, quite a few hatched, but the fungus seems to settle on the babies and they die. I think I need to get my meth blue dose sorted better.
I am not really concerned right now because I have one or two babies on hand!!!!
