To artificially spawn fish using hormones you need to know that you have got a male and a female. So you would have to find an expert to vent your fish to determine what that sex is.When you artificially spawn fish, you normally remove the eggs and hatch them artificially. You then have to Milt the male artificially as well. Basically this would mean removing the male Oscar from the tank and gently squeeze the abdomen of a male Oscar until the Milt/sperm came out all over the eggs that you would have in a reciprocal. Now the probably they may have is hatching the eggs. I believe that mace breeders who artificially hatched eggs, wait until the Oscars have laid the eggs and then they remove them. The Oscar lays its eggs on the flat rock. The eggs have to be oxygenated in order for them to hatch as well.

So let's create a scenario, somebody vents your fish and you end up with a male and a female. You obviously have to wait till they reach sexual maturity before you can start reading them. The chances are, they will probably start breeding on their own accord if they are kept together. If Oscars are kept in the correct environment, they will spawn on a regular basis. Obtaining a male and a female isn't difficult, you just have to get four or five Oscars as babies, the law of averages say you will have a male and a female within that group.

I think you would be wasting your time if you are thinking about artificially spawning Oscars using hormones.

Oscar can breed quite readily, you just need to get the right pair. In my opinion it would be easier to get a very large tank, say 200g with 6 oscars, wait for a pair to breed and rehome the rest

The next question is are you gonna feed the babies, if you do you will have hundreds from each batch. What will you do with them. Of the 4 fish shops that have oscars round my way they vary rarely have more than 40 in them, often of 2 or 3 colours, so selling them would mean a lot of traveling indeed
