I have 3 Oscars in my tank, and on a denish website I read, that they like having a flat stone to lay their eggs on. So I went in to our garden and found a big flat stone, fore a while they faught over the stone
, so I went to the garden again and found another flat stone.
And wow the biggest Oscar has now taken the biggest stone and "he" is cleaning it.
Last week the biggest and the smallest went pale almost grey and the one in the middel was figthing whith the big one all the time, mouth to mouth.
Today "he" cleans "his" stone and swims whith the small one, and "he" nips at her, not hard. The small one sometimes swims on the side, with the big one almost dancing around "her". Beautyfull to see, but are they lovers?
I realy would like small ones and I have done all I can, turning up the heat to 28C and finding stones, feeding with love and care, and cleaning with a strong filter.

Help me, are they breeding?

Warmest regards Mrs. A

sounds like it could be mating behaviour. how old are your oscars? how big is your aquarium? and what kind of tankmates are housed with them?

if your oscars are sexually mature and ready to spawn try feeding live food for a few days then doing a big water change. lower the temp a few degrees and slowly bring it back to the normal temperature. this could help in forcing them to lay eggs.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all

I supply their food with live food as much as posible, like flyes, snails and other insekts and I just made a BIG waterchance yesterday (I do that once every 30 days and a small waterchance once a week)the tank is about 100 gallon and they live with a catfish (1 Acanthicus adonis )about 14 days ago I went and got real plants for them, and since then, they have been looking happy.
I don´t know how old they are, I bought them with a tank about some time ago. Looking at the catfish I think about 4 years, and I know that the first owner (I am the 3) bought 4 Oscars and 1 catfish together, when they chanced owner, 1 Oscar died (he sayed it wasen´t growing, and might have been sick)the secound owner had them for almost 2 years (he had never seen them couble)The first owner I don´t know much about. But I know they did not have the perfect condition, when I came to get them, their water was dark braun, whit a lot of feaces and it has taken me 2 mounch to get the water clear and smelling right (it smelled like death fish)
Everthing came with the tank then; filter, sand, logs, plasticplants, heater and so on, but I got a stronger filter 400 gallons/H. and man that works, some weeks ago I switch it to boble and they seem to love it even more.

Behaps thats why they seem to be breeding?

I realy love them, they are so beautyfull, carm and they come up to me when I pas the tank, beaging for treats.

Warmest regards Mrs. A

Oscars breed in the wild in the rainy season when lots of rain cools the water and washes lots of extra food ie insects into the river. Mimic this and it will help you to breed your oscars. Try mealworms river shrimps and earthworms. It is very unlikely you will get fry with other fish in the tank. The oscars will see them as a threat to the babies and will eat the fry.
