I have 3 oscars in 160 gallon aquarium. They are around 14-15 months old. My tiger is secluded on his side and my two albinos stay together on the right. It has been this way for a few months now. The albinos do not tolerate the tiger near the slate rock. Recently (past few weeks) during water changes the albinos defend there territory from even me and after todays water change they started cleaning the piece of slate and removing all of the gravel frantically. I have a feeling that I will see eggs soon but I have read that they will sometimes eat the eggs if there are other fish present. If this happens should I remove my tiger or remove the eggs to hatch them? The problem I have is my tiger is definately my favorite butI guess I will sit back and see what happens. I have found a place where I can buy real lemon oscars so If I successfully breed these albinos I am getting 4-6 lemons and try to breed them.
what you finely decide will be down to you in the end but i will give advice to my best knowledge. you would be best off to decide whats most important to you. breeding or just keeping a sellection of fish. If its breeding then you will have far better results with just a mating pair. No matter how big your tank is. 2nd there will still be no guarantee they will still not eat the eggs as this is very common even if you have just a pair in the tank. 3rd even thought they lay eggs you still may not have a pair as 2 females will sometimes pair off together and one or both lay eggs. so as you can see the whole breeding game is a little harder than it looks. it is also common for fish of same colour to pair off. if you remove the eggs I think you will have a good chance but only if they have been fertilized. If you do decide to remove the eggs place in tank with doubble amount of met blue and fan with a pump or air stone. I would also lower the PH to 6.5 ish. but make sure the ph is stable.good luck
