i have 2 new oscars. A red and a red tiger. i bought them at the same time from the same tank. the red was about 2.5 inches and the tiger about 2".they've both grown about an inch since i've had them. however over the last three days my tiger has been biting my red on the mouth but mostly on the body. the red doesn't seem to mind. the red has also been sweeping the gravel with its tail and anal fins. this sounds like mating behaviour from what i've read but they are obviously too young.aren't they? leah

Firstly you have posted under the room, your post should be under "oscar fish". this room is for announcements and forum information. but never mind now please try to post under the right rooms at later date, as this will make sure you get the right info for your post.

As for your question, yes its way to early for them to pair off together, and the way your fish are acting is probably just play, or one showing dominance over the other. there is a small difference between bullying, playing, and mating but all will use the mouth as fish don't have arms. for mating its usually more gracefull circles with lots of rock cleaning, for bullying its more biting and flaring of the gills one will back down and the other Chase. there is still the chance you do have a pair but you will find out in about a yr or so maybe a little less as your fish are already a few months old.
Be the change that you want to see in the world.
