well no personally, but my oscars have laid their 1st set of eggs while ive owned them. hopefully they will hatch.

heres dad with the eggs

and heres mum and dad

now once they have hatched and they have stopped mothering them should i put them in another tank or leave them with their parents. there are no other fish in the tank. will they eat them theirselves?

many thanks:laugh:

Fingers crossed. They don't look fertilized at the moment, but they will change color if they are

What a coincidence. My oscras lay their eggs too.
i agree with OFL.... seems not yet fertilized.

when i woke up this morning, i had seen those load of
eggs and look fertilized already. the problem is, my
other fishes are still there with them. i haven't fixed my
other tank with broken bottom plate.

i will take pictures when i come back home in few hours.

dont worry.... that is normal.....
mine are still there and seems fertilized....
i will just hope it will not taken down by
the parents due to the presence of tankmates.
i can not transfer them yet coz the other tank
is not yet ready

I have a male and a female Oscar in my 125 gallon tank that do lay eggs on occasions. Until now, they haven't fertilised them. Why this is happening, I know not. If you really want to be successful, I would strongly advise only having the Oscars in the tank. Any disturbance isn't going to help matters. Oscars breed in the rainy season in the wild. That is why you often find they often spawn after a water change. I suppose it's mimicking extremely heavy rainfall. However, some Oscars may only breed on occasions. Some do it on a regular basis.

agree on that 100%. and i am not ready yet to have those
wigglers. what i am trying to observed is how do the parents
protect the eggs. if they can hatch the eggs, then i will be
ready the next time arount. perhaps by then, my ground level
tank will be ready. for the meantime, it will be an added
accomplishment but i am sure my angel fish will ick them one by one.

The few eggs that are left do look fertilised. Are they brown or is it my eyesight that's playing up?

yeah antman_1, this is he first time i've seen
an oscar like them. according to the lfs, they were
supposed to be a red oscar... but there was no scale
pigmentation.

yes OFL, they were brown and fertilized. but i am not
ready yet for another batch of wiggler. so i will just
watch them to hatch and be taken down by the angel fish.
once my ground level tank is ready, then i will take care
of the next spawning. it is better to be that way than
having a lot of fishes which i can not give the right care.
