hi my names kieran. i have 2 red oscors wich have been behaveing odd lately. thay are about 2 years old.thay have been leting out big mad ywans lateley and i dont know what the meaning of this is.could someone shine some light on this subject for me it would be much appericated thanks:(

from your decription of their action it does sound like the beginning of a mating ritual. if you dont already have one you should put a piece of slate into the tank with them to clean and lay their eggs on.
as for sexing, oscars are monomorphic, so the only sure way to tell if you have mating pair is to wait for fry to appear. but if they have just started this behaviour you could be in for a little bit of a wait until this happens.

ok i put a bit of slate in? but wa does fry look like? there was something see through on ma glass the other day. when i tryed 2 clean it the oscor started 2 attack the algie cleaning block? any kind of slate.will roof slate do the job thanks for the info if u have any more it would much helpfull

as for slate make sure you boil it first for about 30 mins to remove anythings harmfull that may be on it.
