chicken isn't very healthy for your oscars. pellets(hikari very popular) worms, meal worm, bloodworm, grasshopper,Beatles, mixed sea food, prawns, beef heart are just a few things that's tried and tested. some meats contain substances that fish can't digest. try to change every few days to keep your fish interested.

high protein help oscar grows at unusual rate during juvinile.
the setback is, it might develop digestive problem later on specially
if the fats in the meat are not removed. but for the color, varied
foods and pristine water make their color vibrant.
the bottom line is, vibrant color is an indicator that your oscar is
healthy. even if you give your oscar color enhancer food as the local
fish shop claims and sold those items, if you do not keep your water
in good condition, your fish will have dull or pale color.

you can feed the shrimp the way it pleases you. yes, you can feed even
a whole shrimp with shell but you have to consider the mouth size of your o.
some people do their own recipe using shrimp as base, grind with other
preferred food like beefheart, earthworms etc, and then froze them.

Shrimp and prawns enhance color because they contain astaxanthin, which enhances reds and is also very healthy for your fish. The shell at the end contains the most of it, so if the shrimp is small enough, don't bother to take it off.
