Crum1979 created the topic: got eggs, but not sure the sexes//

Hello all new to the boards, and fairly new to Oscars. I got these two on the same day in November 2011. Just recently, like in the last month I moved them to their new tank. In their old tank they dug all the way to the bottom glass but never did anything but move rocks. The new tank the started to move rocks then started in on "cleaning" the big rock in the tank. Last night I was just sitting there and looked over and noticed a bunch of white on the rock.. so I took pictures and video.. I could see the eggs coming from the Black one, the white one would just swim over the top of the eggs.. I couldn't tell if anyhting was coming out. I could see both organs out, the black one looked like the end of a funnel, the white one looked like the bottom of a funnel with half of it broken off.. (See pictures) My guess is they are both females but could use the help of others on this.. Also is there anything I can do so they don't lay eggs?

thank you

Congrats on the eggs!!!

The tiger is without a doubt a female..
I would have to have a clear pic of the Lituno's organ to know what it was..
But I can tell you White eggs means they are NOT fertilized.. If the eggs are fertilized they are tan in color!

I would have thought the tiger would be the male being that the dorsal fin and the tail doesn't blend in to a dull point.

Oops sorry I just realized the 2nd pic of her tube sticking out that much

Thanks for the info all.. I'll try and get a better picture when it happens again.. when i got home from work today all the eggs were gone.. the Lituno is the more dominant in the tank and has never really dug like the tiger. My last Oscars never got to this point so its all new to me.

To me they both look female... Although the Lutino's egg tube isn't out as far...

But I could be wrong...

Thanks for the reply all... I'm thinking they are both female too. I just found it odd they both swam over the eggs.. how long does it take for the eggs to turn tan if they get fertilized? Also is there something I can do so they won't lay eggs..?
