scwilli created the topic: Laying eggs?

So i have a single oscar about 19 months old. Today i noticed something odd. He(maybe not) would hover on the bottom of the tank and turn paler, tail on bottom stomach barely above the sand. He would stay there for a minute then shake his tail up and down and move off. Has done this over the last 30 minutes. Keeps going back to the same spot where he has dug a depression in the sand.

I cannot see any eggs since i have a sand substrate. Thinking about adding something flat and dark to see if maybe it is eggs if he will do this over the new object.

Im certain he/she is just having a territorial dispute with his reflection in the bottom of the tank. Oscars male and female will dig holes. I suppose its not out of the realm of possibility that the reflection could trigger egg laying. Throw in a piece of slate and find out.:)

He has never had an issue with the reflection, though now he is swimming up and down against the glass. I need to find a good flat black rock.

Ill try that and see what comes in the next week or so. I never saw any eggs fall, but he might be too young for anything but behavior. The two videos I took didn't have that odd tail vertical tail shake I've never seen before.
