Pedroscar created the topic: First Successful Spawn/eggs laid 11/25

My father's Albino Tiger (mother) and Tiger Oscar (father) have had the first successful spawn. I helped this time I treated the tank with methylene blue and it worked, my father was making a deal about the water bring blue but some how knew it wouldn't matter it would work and it did! We currently have pulled the wrigglers out and into a 20 gal. for feedings. They had the first feeding yesterday, though I not know if many were hungry enough to eat they may still had yolk sack food. I'll make updates as much as I can. My father has a mated pair now, I know he is happy!

Thats great! Did he just purchase 2 Oscars and they happened to pair up, or was this something he tried to do?

Ok, I'm not yet familiar with the best way to share a picture on this site but I added two files below of Oscar fry 4-5 days old. (We had already lost this guy, he was dead.) One week after hatching they are doing well enough to swim in all directions, and realize when food is dropped in the tank.

My father has had cichlids since the day he has owned fish tanks. Convicts, piranhas, Oscars, etc. He had some success breeding some species just not Oscar's, during the entire 35 years he has had Oscar's. I think he seems to believe breeding your fish is like bringing the fish life full circle and I get it...So the short version is my father was asked if he would take in three 10 inch Oscars one Red Oscar, One Albino, and one Common Oscar, he had the tank space and took them in about 2 years ago. During those2 years he would put 2 together in hopes that they would pair off, and during that time my father only confirmed that the Albino was female because she would lay eggs from time to time, then a few months ago a friend of his traded his 75 gallon tank and One Tiger Oscar for my dad to do his automotive work. Turns out the Albino, egg layer, got along with the Tiger Oscar and my father couldn't wait, even saying while I was out of the fish tank room "we got Oscar eggs!" een when we didn't, it was funny when we did have eggs a week later.

Congratulations on your successful breeding. If you got any more photos or video then please do share it with us. I've got two Oscars that appear to be a pair, however I'm still waiting for them to start breeding. Whether they will remains to be seen, fingers crossed though.

You can add files the way you have done, or alternatively the best way is to use photo bucket. Just go to their website at photobucket.com, create an account and it's all pretty easy. In fact if you look on the homepage, in the menu on the left, you will see that one of our members has made a video on how to use photo bucket.

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)
