Any appearance based sexing of Oscars will be 50/50 in its results.

If an oscar only grows to 10".... the tank foot print can be 48"x12". If the oscar grows over 10"....the tank foot print should be at least 48" x 18".

For tanks larger than 55g, allocate at least 55 US gallons of water volume. Stock fish tanks according to adult fish size.

In terms of maintenance, always change 55 us gallons of the water at least every 7 days for an oscar over 1 year of age.

Thats a lots of work and as far as tank dimension i would prefer to keep atleast 3-4 oscar in that. I know many people will say you should not keep more than 2. :)

If you are not willing to do the work, don't get an oscar. Get community fish. Oscars are not community fish. Like you said, you don't have test kits available so you won't ever know when the water is bad.

Oscars can live over 10 years with the right care.

I am not an expert but as far as my 1.5year experience the more you care(not denying to do that) the more sensitive you will make your fish. And yes if you are altering water conditions on a daily basis than you are only giving stress to your pets.(exceptions are there like using driping system or like that to maintain best water quality 24x7)

just presenting my views

You have outdated information about doing a water change on a daily basis. Do some more research. Think about what it is like for Oscars on the amazon river. They don't live in stagnant water, which means 100% water change everyday.

If you change your water everyday, it will remain closer to the same water parameters as your water source.

Please do not keep oscars. You are not ready/willing to provide what is required to look after large, messy, predatory fishes.

Go do a water change - the solution to pollution is dilution.
