Well, the parents refuse to eat their fry and my family (kids) won't let me Take them out so I'm stuck at the moment. I thought they would need special food, so I figured they would die without special food. But, my kids crushed up flake food and the boogers are eating it. This is a REAL LESSONED LEARNED!!!!! You must vacuum out the eggs as soon as they are laid!

Anyways this situation has brought out my Oscar's DARKSIDE as you guys would say. They have claimed the entire room. We can't walk past the tank without both Oscars giving us what for.

So, I thought I'd take a video of it. Feel free to show this video to anyone who thinks they can house any tank mates with an Oscar pair.

Hopefully this video shows up... let me know if it doesn't. Here is the link

Great vid. Your right about them taking over with fry. And a well established tank has a small forest of things for them to eat on just about every surface. They will survive without even trying to feed them special food.

Go do a water change - the solution to pollution is dilution.

I didn't know that! But yeah I'm sure there are tons of invisible things for them to eat. It's cute to watch them eat. I've even seen a few poop!

I will check out vid when I get home.......locked out @ work.......you planning on selling them?

I fed my Oscar fry (years ago when I had a breeding pair) hard-boiled egg, smushed up between my fingers, & chopped earthworms...grew quick on that!! B)

I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do. I had no idea they would be such good parents.

There is one lfs I could trade in for some store credit. I also have some fish and a turtle that would eat them. My Texas, pufferfish and painted turtle would probably eat them. That sounds terrible!

I'm going to try the egg! Even though I don't need 500 Oscars, it feels wrong not to feed them.

Just be prepared to do a WC after feeding the egg........it does foul the water very quickly!!

Cichlids are great parents, Oscars are no exception. You'll be surprised by how many fry will make it to a healthy size.

In my guppy feeder tank the fry survive off of the live plants and algae alone. While I do supplement their diet with flakes, it isn't necessary. I just want them gut loaded so they are healthier food for the Oscars.

I would end up using some of the fry as food if they grew older, or maybe try raising a couple of the more colorful ones to see how they turn out.

They made it a few more days...then a few went missing...then another few...then BAM all gone overnight. We were actually bummed out about it. But they are already making more, clearing the rock, beating each other up/making out.

However, I will vacuum the eggs out!
