This is the third batch of eggs my oscars have produced. The first two sets were eaten. This batch is about 2 days old and still here. From what I understand is if they are tan in color, there are good eggs, if their white, their bad. I only see two white eggs.

Also, is this one of the organs, and if so, which?

Thanks

Give it one more day, hopefully they should start hatching. How old are the Oscars? Are there any other fish in the tank? The second photo looks like the female. When asked starts breeding, they are not always successful first few times.

I'm really not sure how old they are. I've had them for about a year now, and they are about 8 inches long. I got them from someone who didn't have the room for them. He had the two in only a 40 US Gallon tank. They are now in a 75 US Gallon tank, and will soon be moved into my new 220 US gallon tank. They are by themselves.

Just a quick update, I just saw a few wigglers in there, but parents seem to be pruning most of the eggs out.

Well, this time the parents did a little better in keeping the eggs till at least some of them started to hatch.

We'll see how things go over the next few hour. If they still eat this whole batch, should I give them a few more tries on their own, or should I just expect that they wont be good parents, and just remove the eggs after their laid?

Dont despair your Oscars may be moving the wrigglers to somewhere safe in a pit that they have dug in the gravel. You have to look really carefully to see them in the gravel if you notice that the fish are no hovering over a different part in the tank this may be where they are keeping the fry safely until; they become free swimming. As for the pic i think it is definitely a female as OFL says. looks to me to be around 4-500 eggs on that slate. good luck be ready with you brine shrimp if you see the wrigglers in gravel. They will become free swimming on the fifth day after they hatched and it will be in the afternoon.

Hey, these are really good photos of fertilised eggs, you don't often get them this good. Probably because they are on a white surface. Would you mind if we use them on Oscarfishlover.com? Of course I will credit you with the photo.

Is there a point where I should consider the eggs dead? Will they change color or anything when they become too old to hatch?

You have a talent with photography. Get as many photos as you can. In fact, send them to my personal e-mail address and I will sort through the ones that are the best

Don't worry, your eggs are definitely fertilised. You'll probably find that many of the eggs will not be fertilised. The problem you've got is when the fry eventually get through the yoke sack, you will have to start reading them. You can't do is feed them on normal food, try and get some baby brine shrimp, sometimes the shop sells them. I don't think you've got time to start breeding them because I doubt you've got the equipment

Thanks for the comments. I have been taking pictures almost as long as I have been caring for fish. Having a good camera makes a big difference. These pictures were taken with a 9 megapixel digital camera, and the one of the wiggler was taken from the bottom of the tank with the macro setting. I will get the pictures together, and send them to you.
