I posted in a different thread about how I had 4 Oscars in a tank and found eggs laid on a piece of driftwood this morning. I've been noticing that two of the oscars were getting pretty beat up for almost 3 weeks prior from the other 2 oscars. I have a 55 gallon tank and they split it up between the two groups. I also put up a border within the tank until I could find out why after 6-7 months in the tank together now they are getting extremely aggressive towards each other. Really just towards two of the four. They ended up taking that down from attacking it so often. I had the day off from work this morning so I was going to donate all of them to the local fish store because I didn't want to see them kill each other. When I went to the tank to feed them before I was to donate them I saw that there were many eggs laid out on the wood and the two oscars who were being very aggressive towards the other 2 were hovering over the eggs and the other two were not even allowed to move from the corner or they would be attacked very aggressively. I took the two out that were getting attacked.
The eggs are a yellowish color, and the two fish stay pretty close to the eggs at all times. Especially the Tiger Oscar stays right on top of it only moving from them briefly and when it does the fire Oscar then floats over them. I also have an eel in the tank about 7-8 inches long that never comes out from another piece of driftwood on the other side. Now the question is, What do I do? I read that it takes about 3-4 days for the eggs to hatch. Do I get another tank set up now in order to ensure their survival after they hatch? What are the chances that any of them will hatch? I heard that a lot of times the first time they lay eggs they usually don't work out.

It's a little bit late to start thinking about setting up another tank. It needs to be cycle properly, Fry will not tolerate poor water conditions. You could set up another tank that you would have to do a water change every day. However, if you follow the link below, you will see that it's not always quite straightforward. One of our fellow members had Oscar eggs hatch and he has one Fry left. Don't hold your hopes too much.

The eggs appear bigger now and float a bit. Is this normal or are they dead?

How long have the eggs been there, and what colour are they. Any eggs that come away from the rock will probably do nothing

The Oscars had eaten all of the eggs. I will let you know if they deside to lay more.

I would imagine that the eggs probably were not fertilised. Maybe better luck next time:)
