Hi everyone. New to the site 1st post and I need some help fast. To make a long story short right before thanksgiving I traded a guy at the LFS my breeding pair of convicts and about 25 babies and decided to get an oscar as it had been several years since I've had 1. Now it's relatively small in size for an oscar only about 3 inches. I go to feed it this morning turn the light on the tank and what do I see looking back at me from inside a cave but a single oscar baby. Now there's no one else in the tank but the oscar so it has to be a baby oscar. So now I need to know what to do to take care of the baby should I move it into another 55 gal. I have that right now only has clown loaches and cory cats or do I leave it(I honestly don't think she could eat it it's to big) best food to feed it. Anything information you can think of to help me out. Thanks in advance for any help.

55 gal is good enough for one oscar. yes... it is relatively small today
but in 3 to 4 months, you will see 7 inches long oscar..a pooing machine,
a fish with character....

i suggest you leave it there and start caring for it,

I have read your post several times and I can't quite work out what is going on. You said you traded some babies and a convict for a baby Oscar and then you said when you turned your tank lights on, you saw a baby Oscar staring back at you. Reading your post sounds as if you were surprised to see it. Anyway, if it is the only Oscar in a 55 gallon tank then you really don't need to move it anywhere. Give it time to settle in, if it's timid don't turn the lights on too much to begin with. If your tank is cycled then feed the fish approximately 3 times a day and you should see a growing rapidly over the coming weeks

ha ha ha... i have the same line of thinking at first.... then i realized
this guy used to have a load of fishes in his tank... then seeing his oscar
alone in that 55 gal tank make him feel that his tank is so huge for a baby oscar.

Let me see if I can make this a little clearer. First off the convicts were not in this tank they were in another. There are 2 oscars in question here the 3 inch one and the baby. Where did the baby come from only explanation I have is that it somehow got in the bag with the other one and went unnoticed until now.

I suppose if the fish store guys scooped the fish up using a net it would have been very easy to accidentally net another one at the same time without noticing. I 'd say it's about 1/4 to a 1/2 inch long. Fish were brought home in transparent bag yes. And yes I am aware this hole story sounds crazy farfetched and unbelievable.

This post got me puzzled. are you saying santa claus came early??? looks like it. well fact is you have 2 oscars? one 3" the other larger in a 55g tank? I think I got that right? anyone remember the program "soap"?? yeah thats how I feel ))))

If you have 2 oscars in the 55g you gonna run into some water condition problems if you are not very keen on water testing and changing.

Are you sure its an oscar and not some other fish that you didnt know you had

If it is an oscar then you will have to rehome one soon or you will end up with poor water quality and sick fish
