I have had 2 oscar for some time now since they were just a couple inches big. Now they are close to 10 inches. They have always gotten along fairly well. Im not sure if i have a breeding pair or a fighting pair. They will occasionlly chase each other around, stare each other down, turn from a dark color to a bright color, their tails will vibrate, then act like they are fighting until they lock lips for a second or two and they are done and go about swimming around together. Do I need to seperate them from the other fish in the tank? Do I need to heat the water some to induce breeding? Im not sure what to do i wish they would breed and have oscar babies...

liplocking and occasional fighting is normal to growing oscars...
unless injury is too much to handle, no need to separate.... just
keep an eye and be ready with spare tank or tank separator...

breeding take a lot of time and requires a lot of things:
1) they must be old enough to breed (usually 18 months to 2 years old)
2) must have good water parameters
3) should have slate or slab where to lay eggs
4) should have no other tankmate that can compromise eggs/fry.

if you have two male, they will fight for supremacy
if you have to female, they can get along and lay egg with out fertilization
if you have a male/female combo, no assurance either that they will not fight
but not to the intense of two male/male combo.

good luck and finger cross for you
