how often do a breeding pair of oscars lay eggs? just bought 2 tiger oscars 3 weeks ago and they laid eggs last night, they cleared a space in the sand to lay them, can't see many now so I think they have ate them is this possible?can still see a few in the sand.any info about this would be much apreciated thanks.

It really depends on the fish, I have heard of Oscars laying eggs every 2 weeks, and some go months and months in between!

If this is the first time they have laid it is not likely that any will survive. It will take them a few tries to get it right, and some never get it right.

What color are the eggs?

I concur with what Nikki has told you. Some Oscars will lay eggs every now and then, sometimes going months without doing it. In many cases the eggs never hatch. This could be because both are females, or possibly the male just isn't doing his job probably. On the other hand some people have a breeding pair of Oscars that lay eggs on a regular basis and they always hatch.

white when first laid but slightly darker now only about 5 left in the sand and yeah its the first time they have done this

wow...you are so lucky to have them spawn that short span time with you.
some people had waited for years waiting for it to happen but never came.
if by chance you have a pair, the next egg will color like this once
fertilized...but if remain white or off white. they are not.

what a cool photo well mine are not that colour, is it wise 2 do a water change/and clean sand? just its due a change thanks.

i suggest you check the water first..if it warrants water change.. do it...
anyway, it is our prime responsibility to keep the water in perfect condition
for them.. but if still okey...let it be... you do not want to disturb their
spawning cycle. when i still have those fishes, they spawn in different time
interval, 2 weeks or 30 days but regularly.
