TOPIC: pop eye disease ???

pop eye disease ??? 1 year, 10 months ago #103829

I have 2 O's. i've had them since November last year. They were babies. One of them grew faster then the other, then the other on caught up and is now bigger then the other one.

I do every week a 25% waterchange AND a gravel clean. I test the water every 2 weeks.

Water tank is 130gallons. Tankmates> 4 Sillver Dollars, they all grew together.

They eat normal and swim fine, no aggressivity between the 2.

Lately i have noticed that one of the Oscars eyes appear to be a little larger then they should normally be. > or evern slighty larger in size then normal.

My question is that I am worried that it may be pop eye desease, WHAT CAN I DO TO PREVENT OR CURE THE DESEASE?. ? does anyone have any suggestions?

My water perrameters are,
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 15-20
PH 7.6

you water data is good, thus i wouldn't worry much. to remove some
liquid from the eyes if it is indeed a pop-eye is an epsom salt. just apply
some at 1 tablespoon per 10 gal water ratio. then just do water change without
replenishing the salt.

To be quite honest I can't see anything that looks particularly suspicious apart from the first photograph, possibly the Oscars right eye may look a little bit bigger, but the rest of the photos looked perfectly okay to me. See what everybody else thinks, maybe it's just me not looking properly.

I am not a fan of salt, but it could be of use for treating pop eye. also you may want to consider melafix as a mild antibacterial treatment. you could also use both.

i just see OFL's post. I would agree there is a little swelling or bulging. but you see your fish every day and would know if something didn't look right. We are only going on pics that are always hard to really see whats going on.

I agree with OFL and marcus, there may be a little swelling but its hard to tell, keep an eye on it and if it gets worse then you will know its popeye. If it is popeye disease you have noticed it at a very early stage. To cure popeye add an anti- bacterial, i use myxazin. The most common cause of popeye is either poor water quality or from fighting/injury. Seeing as your water tests results are good and it is in one eye (if it is popeye) this would suggest fighting/injury

hello...it has now been 1 week and 3 days, the oscar has not changed, for better or worse.. i doubt it is pop eye disease, but even if it is still in its very early stages, how long does it take to progress or to officially turn into a worrying disease.?
He is eating as normal and swims fine...water amonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 15-20

with that water condition, i am confident your fishes will be fine.
popped eye is a disease and will eventually gone with good water
and varied food....
