hello everyone. i currently have have two 4 inch red oscars in a 90 gallon. one of them has ich, i am using aqua-sol or something i cant remember the name but i am running two emperor 400. the directions say to remove carbon but dont stop filtration. now my question is my cartridges already have the media in it. so do i keep the filters running with no filter pads?? i know what a rookie question. or do i cut the carbon out? thank you for your time..

ICH or whitespot is a really common and fortunately an easy disease to get rid of.

If your are going to use chemicals to remove it you need to remove carbon from your filter(otherwise the carbon will absorb the chemical and you will be wasting your time). I dont know the filter you are using but i guess it will ok to remove the carbon and run the filters without it

An alternative is to raise your temperature to 30oc. This speeds the life cylce of ICH up to the point that it doesnt have time to infect your fish. Leave it like this for at least 4 days after all symptons have gone but to on the safe side i would leave it for a week. Watch for secondary infections after ICH. If you get some use an anti-fungicide treatment

A word about carbon, if your are going to use it make sure to put new stuff in regularly according to the instructions on the filter. However most people find it unnecessary. It is expensive and not needed if you maintain your tank correctly with enough water changes
I can't get no sleep
