We need LOTS of info from you yet,

How big is your tank?
Did you cycle it first?
What are your water readings for Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, and PH?
Can you post a pic?
What filter are you running?

These will help us help you!

BTW... Welcome!

Ph is about right Ant but 55 gal is for one oscar alone. If he is small you will ok for now but have a plec in there you will run out of room very soon.
Filtration is a key factor in keeping fish. Your filter should turn over at least 2x the tank volume per hour.
Have a look at the top of the home page under health there are a lot of info there for your oscar, until you can get us a photo of your pet...

Call me Jamie by the way...

Hey there, Ant.
How often do you change water and how much at a time?
Do you use Prime/ waterconditioner with your waterchanges?
btw welcome to the forum.
