So I have a temporary oscar in my 55 gallon tank along with Fluffy. See I know tank size plus oscars but this oscar was at the pet store in a small, over-stocked convict tank being beaten up. My oscar (who is 2 inches smaller) began biting this new oscar and bullying him so I put a plastic divider in the middle. It has small squares that arent big enough for either to get through.

Well, I think Fluffy tried to get through when I was outside as I came in and found him like this in the corner of the tank..

I have since removed the divider and there is no conflict as the larger of the two was already injured and no my guy is also hurt. Im not planning on keeping both and am planning on rehoming the new addition once hes better but what do I do about mine? Will his top fin grow back after this?? I feel so awful.

Wow that's a fair old injury...I wouldn't think that it will grow back unfortunately but the wound should heal nicely so long as it does not get infected. Its a shame about the fin tho as he has amazing colours

I have no idea if it will grow back or not, but what I do know is if you keep your water in perfect condition, they will both heal quickly!

I have also seen an Oscar with NO TOP FIN AR ALL, and she was perfectly fine!

its not old, its only happened about 6 hours ago...

I got some melafix and some aquarium salt.. Im going to be on this like white on rice on a paper plate in a snow storm. Although, sad as it is, there is no more fighting. Now theyre both convalescing. The other oscar is beautiful too.. I still cant believe they had it packed in with a bunch of convicts.

Oh he looks so sad.... I hope he perks up soon... Just keep a close eye on your water readings and I am sure he will heal in no time!

Oh, I will be with two of them in a 60 gallon... I knew I would be over-stocked, but this pet store had him in a 30 gallon (if that) with about 30 convicts. He was hiding, or trying to, behind a sponge filter. I just couldnt leave him.

My smaller one is chasing the new guy all around the tank still, just not as intensely as before. Ive put a full dose of melafix and aquarium salt in and plan to do water changes every morning until they look better.

I have to get a better filter. I got one that has a bio wheel, but it seems kinda crappy. Poo is STILL not being sucked up like I want it to.

if the base if the finspines is still there, the fin can grow back.
But this seems to have gone beyond the base...
Pristine waterconditions, and my fingers are crossed for your o's recovery.

Dwencl that looks awful... poor baby. Hopefully he will heal and be able to function. I've heard of ones without their top fins before and they lived long happy lives. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Amazing colors in that guy too... very beautiful!
