hello we are new to this but i hope someone can help me . we have two oscars about two years in age they have grown up together ... we have a black one and an albino..they are both appr....8 and 10 inches ... we have had them in a 30 gallon tank ... and we decided it was time to get a bigger one .... i noticed them i guess you would say breeding maybe ... kinda fighting with each other ... than we had noticed they had started to make a hole in the gravel i forget what you would call it but its where they would make room to have the babies...but then we disrupted that when we cleaned the gravle and moved them to the new tank ... the new tank is only a 55 gallon but they have seemed to be pretty good with the move ...we then purchased a wolf fish to add to the tank and we noticed that the albino was all scraped up and the black oscar was picking at her we had thought that maybe the wolf fish attacked her .... we moved her to another tank and got her better and tried to put her back in the tank and as soon as we put her in the other oscar attacked her so bad he pulled lots of scales off and she has a hole in the side of her now .... so why is he attacking her like this after so long is it because of the wolf fish is it because we may have messed with there breeding what should we do ... get her better and try to put them back together again .. please help ... thanks joliene and pete

They may not be breeding. They may both be males and fighting over territory. Both 30 and 55 gallons (even without the other fish) are small for two Oscars.
Hi.

If you're taking out the female to an E-Tank and then relocating her in the main tank when she's all healed up, maybe try taking out the other Oscar aswell and reintroducing them to the tank at the same time. Or put something in the tank that the female can escape to to get away from the aggressive male. Just some suggestions, hope they help =]

New to Oscars, only had them since about summer of \\\'07. Finally got my own Jan, \\\'08 after my b-day. His name is Ghost and he is still a baby. Plan to get a larger tank when he gets older and I have the funding for it.

i have to agree with with sunks on this. even moving them to 55 gal tank isnt going to stop your problems. you'd need at least 110 gals for your oscars alone and if the wolf fish you're talking about is the wolf cichlid i beleive that it can reach about 20" or so. you will definetly have agression probs and water problems as they grow.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

When you moved them to the new tank they were re-establishing the pecking order and one wasnt strong enough to match the other, this re establishing of pecking order can also happen if you add a new fish to the tank. When you put the injured fish back into the tank, the fish you didnt move saw it as in intruder in his territory

To get them to get on again can be difficult. First i would return the wolf fish as they get too big. To get them to get on try putting a divider in the tank until they both are healed completely. Then remove the divider and see if they get on. This will give the injured on some territory to defend and hopefully he will stand up to the other

A 55g really isnt big enough for both oscars
I can't get no sleep
