Hi
I have a 7 month old tiger O and i think i may hav over fed him.
I caught some guppies out of a dam and put them in my tank.
I didnt expect him to try and eat all of them at once. he sat in one of the top corners of my tank for a day or so and he was sort of on his side. I noticed he did do a big poo, but now he is sittin on the bottom of the tank and hasnt moved for atleast 12 hours and hasnt eatin in 3 days.
can some one help me out??

Ok, to save time, the experts on this site will need to know some details...things like how many guppies and what size were they? How big is your tank, what is your water like..pH, ammonia, nitrate, Nitrite, Temp and tank mates if any..

In my experience Oscars will overeat if you permit them to so it is always handy to have a separate tank for holding feeder fish so that you can feed them over time. There are also negatives associated with feeder fish that you need to be aware of as well. I'll leave it to the experts though... Good Luck..Shaz

You really should not feed live foods because there is a huge risk of disease transfer. That being said it is common for my os not to eat for a few days after a big
meal but you should still test your water chemistry and post results
I have no idea why the water bill is so high

there would of been about 30 or 40 guppies, around an inch long, my tank is a triangle corner tank and is about 170 litres. I did a water test and the water is alright, did a 50% water change yesterday, tank temp is 26 degrees, and i have a small Kribensis ciclid about 2 to 3 inches

he's probably just full and will be resting while digesting the food you gave him.
Looks like my gar, he eats until his belly is totally full and will lay on the gravel for prolonged periods.

just keep low on the food next time, o's do not seem to know when to stop eating.
you have to decide when they are full.
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

if your fish doesn't shows any hard breathing or gasping for air,
you shouldn't worry much? but water data will help us more to find
the problem.....

I feed my fish live feeders... I have 2 oscars and 1 jack dempsey. I don't get mine from anywhere but the local fish store and then quarantine them for 2 weeks before to make sure they are healthy. After they eat the feeders, they usually won't eat for a few days. I wait for them to do the "feed me" dance at the top of the tank before I even attempt to feed them.

One time mine did over eat and he laid at the bottom for days pooping. Then he let out a nice big poop and was back to normal.

These guys will eat and eat until there is no more food. Like the other guys said, we have to control how much they eat.

Post your levels though.... we like specific numbers so we can help you better.

ok so ive been watchin my fish over the last couple of days. He's still laying on the ground but he seems to be more active. He was swimming around where i usually feed him so i put a couple of pelets in and he ate them, I also put some fish medication in for fin rot etc because i noticed he was starting to get white dots on his fins. Also i noticed that he has been shaking his tail, does anybody kno why that is??
i did a water test and these are the results:
Ammonia: 1.9, Nitrite: 0, Nitrate: 15
