Hey Guys,

My Red Tiger Oscar has a strange section of white on the top of its fin and tail. All of the same oscars at the LFS had it but their fins do not look infected (no splits or fraying). I found an image online of an adult that looks to be very similar, so maybe it is just a colour variation. It isn't clear like fin growth, it is solid white.

Here is my little fella:

Here is the photo of the adult:

Do you guys think this is something to worry about? If it is the start of fin rot I want to get on it ASAP.

Cheers.

where do you you mean?
the white edges on the fins are very normal and my red has the same.
it's the thing i recognized him by, when i bought him.

Hey Noddy,

On its top fin at the back you can see a white line, on the very edge. Also on its tail at the top you can see a little square patch. Like I said, there is no obvious damage to the fins, just the solid white parts. He seems completely healthy, I just wanted to put it out there just in case. I don't mind it actually, it looks quite cool on the adult in that photo.

Thanks for your input mate, you guys are very reliable for quick replies.

Hey AyresNet,
My oscar has this too. its nothing to worry about, its not fin rot, but if you start to see little strands coming from it, it starting to look jagged or the white spreads, i would put some meds in the tank. but telling you now, it doesnt look like he (or she) has fin rot

most oscars have this, nothing to worry about

This is quite common on some oscars, nothing to worry about

With fin rot it looks like some of the edge of the fin is missing in an irregular shape and more goes 'missing' over a few days!
I can't get no sleep

In my experience with fin rot with the goldfish...it is a water quality issue and tends to clear up by itself it the water remains consistently good. If your fella has been in consistently great water then you should have nothing to worry about..but it doesn't look like fin rot to me either..Cheers..Shaz

I think your 2 Oscars look pretty good. And based on those photos, the white coloring on the tips of fins are nothing to worry about. No fit rott there. that is normal.
