If its a new tank then your tank isnt cycled (i assume it the 20g you talked about in other posts). This will also explain the problem with your other fish. I suggest you have a look around this site especially on cycling a new tank. If its a brand new tank, get rid of the other fish, plecs can be very hardy but it may still die.

Unless you are going to get a bigger tank i would forget keeping oscars and keep community fish. Zebra danios are a good fish to start with, they can stand the problems with a new tank and they look good with other community fish. Please dont take this as me having a go at you, i am glad you came on here to ask questions, however it seems to me you are unprepared to keep large fish like oscars

I only have a blue dragon goby in with the pleco. When you say get rid of it what do you mean???¿¿¿

I have two things to say

first: the water might be cloudy for a couple of days after first putting the water in.

second: You need to do your research before buying a single thing. You need to cycle the tank before you put your fish. And you need to read about the fish before buying them. Most pleco grow to large for you tank. so you might have to get a bigger tank when it's bigger or if it's already big you need to get rid of it or get a bigger tank.

I meant the dragon goby. Please read on the site about cycling a tank. In an uncycled tank you get ammonia and then nitrite. Hardy fish like danios are ok with this, most fish are not and its poisonous to them. When i say get rid of it i mean rehome it to either a fish keeper with a tank that is established and has compatible tank mates or take it back to the shop

Please please please read on this site about cycling a new tank -its very important

yh you definatly need to cycle the tank 1st before you start to put any fish in i would strongly reccomend that you take the dragon goby back to the reatailer other wise the goby will be the 1st to go the plec are very hardy fish but they will still be prone to disease due to a non cycled tank, i would look up on the internet what fish you are buying 1st and then do some home work before you add the fish into the tank????? what size is your tank??? how long has it been set up???? did you use dechlorinator when you added the water??????

my tank is 2 feet by 1 foot and 16 inches tall (17gallons) and I did dechlorinate the water and it has been set up for 1 & 1/2 weeks now but i had it set up 3 days previous to buying the fish. I had a small filter but when i found out it wasnt big enough i moved up to a 10-30gallon filter 3 days later because it was a blizzard outside and thats why i think the water was cloudy.

well cloudy water can occur overnight without you evn knowing why, when you clean the filters out how do you clean them???? do you clean the filters pads out in a bucket of the aquarium water????? if you dont and you just clean them out in the shower for example then thats why you have got cloudy water, you should always clean them out in the aquarium water, i used to clean my filters out in normal tap water untill i think it was ofl mentiones it to me, ive got 3 filters in my 270 ltr tank and about 3 weeks ago i decided to cclean my filters out which i did so , but then i realised that ive cleaned out both pads in the 2 filters which is a big mistake ive been told buy nemerous ppl that u should only clean out 1 pad per filter to let the other pads bacteria move across to the other pad, sounds crazy but it is true , anyway like i was saying once i realise what i had done then the next day i had cloudy water, my water is a bit cloudy still but it is passing,

one more thing i would keep the feeding down to a minimal atleast untill the cloudy water passes
