I noticed after my Oscar ate and was breathing with particles ejected from his gills. Now he did have Ick a few weeks/months ago. He nor any other fish in tank have any on them and water chemistry are all good just tested water. Is this normal or maybe something?

Second question is live feeding, we started with some baby guppies and he loved them. My question on this is there any type of fish i shouldn't feed him? I have some glowing blue tetras(or whatever) that someone gave me that i don't want and want to feed them to him...lol

Thanks

The particles ejected by the gills is food particle, it will occur often when feeding pellets

As for feeders, avoid goldfish. Also either breed your own feeders or quarantee shop bought one for 2 weeks

Oscars should always hungry and are professional beggars. When keeping oscars, if they are full and not always hungry then you are overfeedng. A well kept oscar should always want more food
I can't get no sleep

The risks associated with live feeding are mainly introduction of nasties into your fish and your tank due to feeding with dodgy fish or feeding fish that have spines which can get stuck in your Oscars throat.

spilling crushed pellet in the gill plate is normal for an oscar.... even my
tilapia and flowerhorn do that....

as to feeding feeders, i will be hypocrite if i say i didn't.... but i
put guppies in my tank just for the sake of hunting if they wish... those
tilapia that i have are left over feeders that my oscars didn't take down.
that includes my flowerhorn too...

as long as you are sure that the feeders are free of any diseases, then
they will be fine as a treat but not as staple.

Personally I preferred worms than feeder fish. But feeders can be a treat once in a while as long as it's safe.
