here goes it, i purchased 3 wild oscars online. long story short they died about a week later. i had them send replacement a lemon and a gold, they also sent me another wild. well after 2 days he started oing the same thing the other oscars did right before they died( sitting at the bottom, not eating , and gasping).the first fish in the tank(besides testers "rosy reds")was my albino tiger, which has never shown any signs of illness. well all 4 of the other oscars(2"lemon,2"tiger,2.5"gold, 3"albino tiger) are doing fine, great even.

my question is this, do you think b/c the oscar was wild caught out of the amazon that he requires a lower PH balance?
if so how will the lower PH affect all me other oscars?

tank is a 125 gal with 2 100 gal canister filters( 30 gal sump on the way), temp stays at 78deg. i know you guys are going to ask for the water specs ( i dont have them b/c im at work, i have a master kit that i will use when i get home). i dont think the water is the problem as all the other oscars are healthy. thanks for your help!

Where did you purchase these lemon oscar. I been loking for it.... As for you're tank, it should read 0 in youre kits, if not, maybe you're over stock, over feed, underfiltration or even maybe mini cycle in youre tank. For nitrAte, they prefer less than 40ppm or 40ppm. You could get an API kits, it is accurate so far. Also I always added salt, 1 table spoon per 5 g. Aquarium salt, or sea salt. Good luck.

your water readings should be 0 for both ammonia and nitrites and your nitrates should be between 20-40 (the lower the better). i cant see how the ph can affect the wild o's since they can from the same place as the others(the lfs) but who knows for sure. you should get a nitrate test kit it is very helpful in keeping your water in optimum condition. as for salt i myself have never used it on a regular basis however it can be used to treat certain fungal infection and stress in fish(i prefer to use other treatments myself) hopefully someone with more knowledge on this subject cna help you more.

btw can you post a pic of your gold oscar i have never seen one before and am really interested in what they look like.
