yes, I totally agree hole in the head disease is a real bitch.okay, melafix isn't the correct medication to use, it won't actually have any effect. Could you possibly post some photograph for us to have a look? this disease doesn't always get brought on by poor water conditions, it can be brought on by stress which can be caused by other factors. Such as large rapids changes in water temperature. this is why it's important to try and match the temperature in the tank when you actually do water changes. As long as your water is in good condition then I shouldn't start stressing about why this has happened, trying to clear it up and then you can look at your situation and try and understand why this happens, you may never understand why it happened. I have had fish that have developed this disease and I always keep the water in really good condition
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss

Oscars are very susceptible to HITH. No one really knows what it is and the cause. What is know is that poor water is one of the causes and good water will help to cure it (but no guarantee). It can take a real long time to cure it. Lots of the medications you can buy dont really work so save your money and dont buy them. I have tried them without success and so has my friend

I personally have had a fish with it and know people whose fish have it. I have also seen fish in shops with it (returned by customers) and hear about it on here all the time. It is a real bugger and far too common, I suspect (my own amateur opinion) that too much breeding from too few a sample of fish has caused some interbreeding and this weakness to HITH has been made worse
