i once the same prob in my african tank. to solve it i reduced the amount of time that i had the lights on to only for 3 hour a day(in the evening) and made sure that the natural light it received was cut to a minimun.
algea needs light to grow so the less light the tank get the less algea. this solved the problem for me.

the lights on an aquarium are for your benefit not the fishes. they are for you to see the fish so if you cut down on the amount of light it wont harm the fish at all. the only prob would be if you had live plants in your tank.

when i cleared up my tank i reduced the light did 40% water change every second day for a couple of days and wipe down the inside of the glass. it cleared up in about 4 days. also you think of adding an algea eater into yur tank but be sure that yuo o's wont be able to eat it.

hope this helps

What are your water params?

Algae thrives in bad water.

Do some extra water changes, cut down on the light, and maybe use an algae-remover.

Best of luck,

Hi, No one has asked where your tank is located, Is it in front of a window?? if so move to a darker place in the room, out off sunlight, 2nd how much light you got on?? you only need just enough to watch your fish, the nitrate levels maybe high as this promotes green to grow, check,

I had a problem with hair algae. It black and like hair thus its name and its a sod to remove manually. I have the lights on from 11am to 11pm. I reduced the lighting to 4 hours in the evening and after a few months it all died off.

Algae lives on nitrates and light so as long as your water is good and you dont have the lights on for too long the problem will go away.

A local fish shop has a big problem with hair algae and have done for a couple of years (prob where i got mine from). The difficulty they are having is they cant reduce the hours the lights are on
I can't get no sleep
