I got my tank in the winter so i had my heater running all the time. Now the weather has been getting hotter and the heater has been over heating the water so i put it on its lowest setting. That didn't help so I unplugged the heater about two days ago. The weather in the past two days has been in the 90s and with no heater my tank water in 83 degrees. Is there any way to bring the tank temperature down or is it OK to leave the temperature like that? Is my Oscar safe at these temperatures?

83°F/28°C is just about perfect for Oscars

You can buy fans to help cool your tank if it gets really hot . or turn your lights out too will help. turning the heater off altogether maybe a bad idea as at night the temperture may drop to low.. 2 small heaters are better than 1 big 1...Check your heater in a bucket of water and replace if its not working right. Make sure its cool before you put it in cold water or it will shatter... I lower my temperture in winter to 78ish and higher it to 80ish in summer. I think your heater maybe ok and its just the temperture of your room??

As the temperature gets hotter in the summer it starts to heat the water in your tank. If it hot enough your tank temperature will go above the temperature your heater is set at

The worst thing you can do is turn the temperature down or even turn it off. If the weather cools down your tank will cool down and if you dont spot it in time your could end up will a cold tank, which will stress your fish or even kill then

If i was you i would put your heater back on and set it to the temperature it was set at before the weather warmed up

A good temperature for oscars is 79. Oscars can live at temperatures above 90, although its not recommended long term

A thing to watch when the tank temperature goes up is oxygen levels. Oxygen levels reduce in higher temperatures so make sure you have plenty of aeration
