Please help me, I need to know if I can feed my tiger Oscar, 2 silverdollars, pleco, 2 small clown loaches and elephant nose fish the following: A) mostly raw, frozen, blanched seafood mix containing: shrimp, cuttlefish/squid parts, surimi crab, mussels and tuna/grouper AND b) frozen, blanched, peeled shrimp...but note that the ingredients on the packet says it contains some salt. Please help as this is food classified for human consumption so it is of a good quality and it costs less than the tiny packs of bloodworm and mysis im currently feeding them. My fish a veracious eaters, my Oscar starts "hunting" and chasing the others around by the second day without food so i need to feed once a day to maintain the peace. Any info would be greatly appreciated as im running out of bloodworm and mysis and need a cheaper alternative.

Ps in an article on this site I read that Oscars may get beef heart...may they also have sheep's kidney?

Thank you.
Tam.

you should feed your oscar a varied diet with a high quality pellet as a staple and supplement with other foods. i use hikari gold pellets as a staple and "treat" with frozen krill, shrimp(from a shrimp ring i get from the grocery store) and beefhearts. for live food i feed crickets and earthworm. as for sheeps kidneys im not sure if they are good for oscar but im sure someone here will have that answer for you.

btw welcome to the site
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

seafood is great for Oscars, lots of goodness, especially crustaceans. What you want to avoid feeding your fish is saturated fat. Saturated fat is found in both animal meats, and fish. Beefheart is made from very lean meat that contains hardly any fat, if you can obtain very lean meat then this is okay. However, it's not something I would feed everyday.

A lot of pet shops sell foods for lizards, birds and spiders. These foods are also good for your fish. Many people feed crickets to spiders, this type of food is excellent for Oscars. Meal worms and normal garden worms are also full of vitamins, another healthy supplement. I've also found that if you leave the mealworms for a while, they turn into little black beetles, Oscars absolutely love these.

I bet your fish love you, what you are feeding is good for oscars, dont worry about if containing salt. It will only be small amounts and the salt level will be kept low as your water changes will remove some salt. I would say that you should add some cichlid pellets to the diet and maybe some insects and maggots/ worms
